How do I know if this rug is authentic?

An authentic hand-knotted rug shows: knots visible on the back (irregular, not a perfect grid), fringes that are an extension of the warp threads (not sewn on), slight color variation called abrash, and natural fibers throughout. Every rug we sell is verified hand-knotted with origin documented and certified.

What size rug do I need for a [living room/dining room /bedroom]?

Living room: 8x10 or 9x12 (front legs of all furniture on the rug). Dining room: choose a rug at least 24 inches wider than your table on every side so chairs stay on the rug when pulled out. Bedroom: 8x10 under a queen bed, 9x12 under a king. Need help measuring? Call us.

Is this rug hand-knotted?

All rugs in our Persian, Heriz, Kazak, Oushak, Mamluk, Khotan, Tabriz, antique, and fine Oriental collections are 100% hand-knotted on traditional looms by master weavers. Hand-loomed and flat-weave collections are labeled separately so there's no confusion. Construction details appear on every individual product page.

How long will this rug last?

A quality hand-knotted wool rug, properly cared for, will last 50 to 100+ years. Many of the antique rugs in our gallery are 80–150 years old and still beautiful. Wool's natural resilience, traditional vegetable dyes, and hand-knotted construction outlast most furniture. Regular cleaning every 2–3 years extends life significantly.

Will the color fade in sunlight?

All rug colors soften slightly over decades — this is natural and is part of what creates the patina that makes antique rugs desirable. Rugs dyed with traditional vegetable dyes age more gracefully than chemical-dyed pieces. To minimize uneven fading: rotate your rug every 6 months and use UV-filtering window film on south-facing windows.
