Runner Rugs — Handmade Hallway Runners in Every Length

A runner is the hardest-working rug in the house. It takes the daily foot traffic of hallways, entryways, kitchens, and landings, so it has to be the right length, the right width, and built to last. This collection brings every runner in the Merchants Of Asia inventory together in one place — hand-knotted, hand-loomed, and hand-woven pieces in wool, silk, and wool-and-silk blends, from short accent runners to extra-long gallery lengths.

      Shop Runners by Length

      • 6 ft & under — kitchens, bathrooms, short entry halls, and beside the bed
      • 8 ft and 9 ft — the most common residential hallway lengths
      • 10 ft, 11 ft, and 12 ft — long corridors and upstairs landings
      • 13 ft and 14 ft — grand hallways and open gallery spaces
      • Wide / gallery runners — around 5 to 6 ft wide for broad halls and long, narrow rooms

How to Measure for a Runner

Measure the full length and width of the space. Leave several inches of exposed floor on each side and roughly 6 to 18 inches at each end so the runner frames the hallway instead of crowding it. Check that doors along the hall clear the pile when they swing — if clearance is tight, a flat-woven runner sits lower than a hand-knotted pile rug.

      What to Look For

      • Natural wool pile — resilient, naturally spill-resistant, and well suited to heavy traffic
      • Hand-knotted construction — the most durable option for hallways that see constant use
      • Hand-woven flatweaves — lightweight, reversible, and low-profile for tight door clearances
      • A quality rug pad — keeps the runner from sliding and bunching on wood, tile, or stone

      Care

Vacuum regularly with suction only, rotate end to end every 6 to 12 months to even out wear, and have hand-knotted runners professionally cleaned every few years.
