Gallery Size Rugs — Long Handmade Oriental Rugs

Standard rug sizes assume standard room proportions. Many homes don't have them. Long living rooms, open-plan spaces, and elongated dining rooms need a rug that's longer relative to its width — and that's exactly what gallery-size rugs offer. This collection features hand-knotted Oriental rugs in extended proportions, such as 7x14, 8x16, 10x19, and 12x21, in new and vintage pieces of natural wool and wool-and-silk.

Where Gallery Size Rugs Work Best

      • Long, narrow living rooms — covers the full seating area without spilling onto walkways
      • Long dining rooms — matches the proportions of an extended table
      • Open-plan spaces — defines a long living or dining zone in one piece
      • Wide halls and galleries — more coverage than a runner, sized for broad spaces

      Why They're Hard to Find

Weavers produce far fewer rugs in elongated sizes than in standard formats like 8x10 or 9x12. Vintage gallery rugs, in particular, are scarce — when the right one appears, it rarely lasts long.

      Sizing Tips

Measure the room and leave 12 to 18 inches of floor on every side. In a living space, the front legs of every piece of furniture should rest on the rug. For narrower spaces, browse our wide gallery runners; for very large rooms, see 14x18 & larger.

      Care

Rotate every 6 to 12 months, use a rug pad, vacuum with suction only, and have the rug professionally cleaned every few years.
